The Kingdom of Israel
DOK 1:Philistines- During 1000 BC the strongest people living in Canaan were the Philistines.
Samuel- In 1020 Bc The Israelites asked him to be king of the Israelites. Prophet- Samuel was a judge and a prophet. Tax- Samuel warned that a king would tax and enslave the Israelites. Saul- The Israelites still demanded a king after what Samuel said, they chose Saul as king. David- He replaced Saul as king when Saul disobeyed god. Goliath- David is famous for defeating a Philistine giant named goliath. Empire- David conquered surrounding areas creating and empire. Tributes- Conquered people had to pay tribute to David making the Empire rich. Jerusalem- The new capital under David was Jerusalem. Solomon- When King David died his son, Solomon became king. Proverbs- Solomon wrote Proverbs which is in the bible which holds his wise sayings. Judah- When Solomon died, the tribes split creating Israel in the North, and Judah in the South. Jews- The capital of Judah was Jerusalem and its people were called Jews. Assyrians- In 722 BC, the Assyrians captured Israel and spread the 10 tribes across the empire. Samaritans- The Assyrians settled the area and became known as Samaritans. Sacrifices- The Assyrians became afraid of the Israelites god and offered god sacrifices. Nebuchadnezzar- In 597 BC, king of the Chaldeans conquered Jerusalem. Severely- In 597 BC, Nebuchadnezzar punished the jews severely punished the jews making 10,ooo leave and live in Babylon. Babylonian Captivity- In 586 BC, the Chaldean king crush Jerusalem, destroying the temples, and removing many Jews, this became known as the Babylonian Captivity. |
