How did the Ancient Egyptian Civilization Develop? |
The Egyptian Civilization developed around the Nile River as it was a reliable water source. The Nile's flooding was more predictable than the Tigris and Euphrates, so it was better for farming. The Nile also served somewhat as a protection from outside invading countries. Egypt was in an excellent position as in being protected from invaders. The Mediterranean Sea lay to the North, desert to the East and West, and mountains to the South. They established a strong way of trade with the other kingdoms around them. Egypt was separated into two different kingdoms: Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt (the most populous.) Lower Egypt is the northernmost part of Egypt while Upper Egypt is the southernmost part of Egypt. This is because the Nile flows North. King Narmer is credited with the uniting of Egypt. They were ruled under one king, the Pharaoh. He was thought to be a god, the son of Ra (Egyptian sun god.) The Egyptians were polytheistic, believing in many gods.
