DOK 2:
The Israelites believed in 1 God. Abraham had a grandson named who had 12 sons who founded the 12 Tribes of Israel in Canaan. Abraham had made a promise to God that his descendants would follow God and his laws so Abraham could have children. Soon there was a drought in Canaan so the Israelites left to go to Egypt, where they were enslaved by the Pharaoh. After the Pharaoh's daughter found a baby Hebrew baby she named him Moses. Moses was chosen to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God sent 10 plagues to convince the Pharaoh to release the Israelites. They spent 40 years in the Sinai Desert. Moses went to the top of Mount Sinai to write God's laws for His people: the Ten Commandments. This formed the Torah. Moses never made it to the Promised Land and Joseph led them in. It was already occupied so the Israelites reconquered Canaan. They got many ideas from the Canaanites, such as the alphabet from the Phoenicians.
